LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- New Mexico State Athletics Department announced Wednesday afternoon that corporate partner Wells Fargo has joined forces with the NM State baseball and softball teams to raise money for charities in the 'Strikeout for Bucks' initiative. Wells Fargo will donate $5 for every strikeout the baseball and softball team record starting from the beginning of the 2010 season.
"Wells Fargo is pleased to support the NMSU baseball and softball teams and our community through the "Strikeout For Bucks" program, by donating $5 for every Aggie baseball and softball strikeout during the 2010 season to Habitat for Humanity and El Jardin de los Ninos," Patrick Lamb, New Mexico Regional Marketing Manager said.
So far this season, the Aggie softball team has totaled 93 strikeouts and has earned $465 for Jardin de los Ninos, while the NM State baseball team has recorded 123 strikeouts for a total of $615 to Habitat for Humanity.
"It gives me great pride to announce that Aggie baseball has teamed up with Wells Fargo to help Habitat for Humanity," head baseball coach Rocky Ward said. "Habitat for Humanity has been an important charitable organization to Aggie baseball ever since the New Orleans baseball team spent time in Las Cruces after hurricane Katrina. Our kids were able to get directly involved in the organization by donating labor, in the city of New Orleans, when we went there to play two years after Katrina."
"We are very excited to have Wells Fargo work with us to help those in need," head softball coach Kathy Rodolph said. "As a team we are very happy to be a part of this event."
