BOULDER CITY, Nev.  - New Mexico State junior Suteera Chanachai is in a tie for 10th after the first day of play in the UNLV Spring Invitational that is being held at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, Monday, March 8.

Chanachai (Bangkok, Thailand) carded a 1-under-par 71 on the par-72, 6,246 yard course, while she is six strokes behind the leader Kayla Mortellaro of Idaho.  This is only the second tournament of the season for Chanachai as she sat out the entire fall season.

"It is good to have her back," head coach Paul Brilliant said.  "She is getting back to form and we believe that she will help us out when it comes to conference play."

UNLV leads the 18-team field with a 7-under-par 281, while the Aggies are tied for 12th with Texas State as both teams scored a 12-over-par 300.  Western Athletic Conference foe Idaho is in second place with a 3-under-par 285 and is one of only two teams who shot under par in day one.

Senior Maggie Murphy (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had a pretty good day as she fired a 1-over-par 63 to tie for 20th.  Sophomore Ashley Elias (El Paso, Texas) is currently tied for 54th with a first round score of 5-over-par 77, while junior Apinporn Swaschuto (Bangkok, Thailand) shot a 7-over-par 79 and is tied for 74th.  Sophomore Gina Bortoletto (The Woodlands, Texas) rounds out the Aggie lineup with a 9-over-par 81, tying for 86th.

The Aggies continue play, Tuesday, March 9 with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. (MT).  Live scoring is available at www.GolfStat.com.
